People & Safety
Our 2,400+ people are not a resource — they are the reason we exist. Zero harm, fair wages, health coverage, and genuine career development are not aspirations at Africa Gold. They are standards.

Zero Harm is Non-Negotiable
Mining is inherently hazardous. We do not pretend otherwise. What we do is invest relentlessly in training, equipment, systems, and culture to drive the risk of harm as close to zero as possible — and to respond swiftly and transparently when incidents occur.
Our safety management system is aligned with ICMM principles and independently audited annually. We report all incidents — including near-misses — publicly, because transparency is the foundation of a genuine safety culture.

Zero-Harm Target
Zero harm is our non-negotiable standard. Every site operates under a comprehensive health and safety management system aligned with ICMM principles. We report all incidents — including near-misses — publicly in our annual sustainability report.
Safety Training
All miners and site workers complete a minimum 40-hour safety induction before commencing work. Annual refresher training is mandatory. We have trained over 12,000 people in safe mining practices since 2009.
Personal Protective Equipment
We provide all workers with full PPE at no cost — including hard hats, safety boots, high-visibility vests, gloves, and respiratory protection where required. PPE is replaced immediately when worn or damaged.
Emergency Response
Every site has a trained emergency response team, first aid facilities, and a documented emergency response plan. We conduct quarterly emergency drills and maintain direct communication links with local health authorities.
Health Monitoring
Annual health screenings are provided to all workers, with particular attention to respiratory health, hearing, and musculoskeletal conditions. Workers with occupational health conditions receive treatment and rehabilitation support.
Mental Health
We recognise that mining can be physically and psychologically demanding. Our Employee Assistance Programme provides confidential counselling, financial advice, and mental health support to all workers and their immediate families.
Investing in Our People
Fair Wages
All Africa Gold miner partners earn above the local market rate — typically 20–35% above the regional average. Wages are reviewed annually and adjusted for inflation. We publish our wage data in our annual sustainability report.
Health Coverage
All workers and their immediate families receive health insurance coverage, including hospitalisation, outpatient care, and maternity benefits. We fund 100% of premiums for workers earning below a defined threshold.
Career Development
Our internal promotion policy prioritises local talent. We fund vocational training, professional certifications, and university education for high-potential employees. 68% of our management team started as site workers.
Women in Mining
Women represent 30% of our miner partner network — significantly above the African industry average of 12%. Our Women in Mining programme provides targeted training, equipment, and mentoring to female miners.
