Environment
Africa’s ecosystems are not a resource to be consumed — they are a heritage to be protected. We restore every hectare we disturb, recycle the water we use, and offset every tonne of carbon we emit.

Leave the Land Better
Our environmental philosophy is simple: we must leave every site in better condition than we found it. This is not aspirational language — it is a contractual commitment we make to every community before we begin operations.
Concurrent rehabilitation, closed-loop water systems, solar energy, and verified carbon offsets are not optional extras — they are standard operating procedure at every Africa Gold site.
Land Restoration
Concurrent rehabilitation begins the moment extraction moves on. We have restored over 500 hectares of post-extraction land using native species replanting, topsoil replacement, and soil remediation. Our target is 1,000 hectares by 2027.
Water Management
We operate closed-loop water systems at all three processing plants, recycling over 85% of all water used. Real-time discharge quality monitoring ensures zero contamination of local waterways. We have reduced freshwater consumption by 40% since 2020.
Carbon Footprint
We have offset 100% of our Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2022 through verified carbon credits and on-site renewable energy installations. Our Scope 3 reduction roadmap targets net-zero by 2035.
Biodiversity Protection
Before any exploration activity, we conduct full biodiversity baseline surveys. No-go zones are established around sensitive ecosystems, and we fund independent biodiversity monitoring at all active sites.
Tailings Management
All tailings storage facilities are engineered to international standards with real-time seepage monitoring. We are progressively reprocessing historic tailings to recover residual gold and reduce our environmental footprint.
Energy Efficiency
We have installed solar arrays at two of our three processing plants, reducing grid electricity consumption by 35%. Our energy efficiency programme targets a further 20% reduction in energy intensity per tonne processed by 2026.
ISO 14001:2015
Environmental management certification across all three processing plants, subject to annual third-party surveillance audits.
RJC Environment
Responsible Jewellery Council environmental standards certification, covering waste management, water, energy, and biodiversity.
Carbon Verified
Scope 1 and 2 carbon offsets verified by Gold Standard, the world's most rigorous carbon credit certification body.
ICMM Alignment
Alignment with International Council on Mining & Metals environmental principles and reporting framework.
